We have come to deeply appreciate the scholarly and pastoral ministry of Peter Hiett of The Sanctuary, Denver, Colorado.<\/p>\n

Philip Yancey said of him:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWeek in, week out, Peter Hiett is one of the best teachers I have ever heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

The following is from his website regarding theology and its importance and centrality as the Living Word of Christ within us:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Theology comes from two words in Greek; \u201cTheos\u201d (which means \u201cGod\u201d) and \u201cLogos\u201d (which means \u201cWord\u201d). So \u201ctheology\u201d literally means \u201cGod Word\u201d or \u201cWord of God.\u201d Your Theology is your \u201cWord of God.\u201d According to Scripture Jesus is the Word of God\u2026.According to Scripture, \u201cThe Word of God\u201d became flesh and dwelt among us, full of Grace and Truth. Out of jealously and in an effort to control and use Him for our own purposes, we took His life on the tree. And yet, He gave his life on the tree, body broken and blood shed\u2014such that the tree of death (the cross) became the tree of life (the cross). He gave His Life to us and rose from the dead. He is our \u201ctheology.\u201d<\/p>\n

Your Theology matters. Your \u201cWord of God\u201d matters. Jesus matters. He is God. He reveals God. He is the commandment of God. And He saves you.<\/p>\n

Your theology is your picture of God. If it\u2019s dead, you\u2019re dead. If it\u2019s (He\u2019s) alive, you\u2019re alive. Living Theology in you is Christ in you. It\u2019s faith.<\/p>\n

Jesus said, \u201cWhoever has seen me has seen the Father.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said, \u201cLove your enemies and do good\u2026 and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil. Be merciful as your Father is merciful.\u201d<\/p>\n

How is our Father Merciful? \u2026Does He endlessly torture his enemies, the ungrateful and the evil?<\/p>\n

How is our Father Merciful? \u2026The answer is to define our every action.<\/p>\n

How is our Father Merciful? \u2026That\u2019s a theological question.<\/p>\n

How is our Father Merciful? \u2026The answer really matters.<\/p>\n

How is our Father Merciful? Answer: \u201cJesus Christ and Him crucified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not simply an idea, list or law, but a story, a person, a presence in our lives. He is a risen presence in our lives and His story is recorded in Scripture. Scripture, which He said, \u201ccannot be broken.\u201d And yet it must be \u201crevealed.\u201d Through His Spirit, Christ reveals the meaning of Scripture, just as he revealed it to the disciples on the road to Emmaus that first Easter long ago.<\/p>\n

Well you see, our theology tells us what God our Heavenly Father is like. And that faith\u2014the Word of God in us\u2014that Faith in our Heavenly Father, makes us who we are. In other words, Jesus tells us what God is like and Jesus makes us who we truly are. Jesus is the Logos of Theos, the Word of God. Theology matters.<\/p>\n

I hope you see that bad theology, (which is really not theology)\u2026 bad theology is the crucifixion of Christ; the death of Love; it\u2019s using lists and laws to justify the self and condemn others. But real theology is Worship, real theology is Love, real theology is Jesus\u2026 in us.<\/p>\n

Little children can \u201cdo it.\u201d Egghead theologians can \u201cdo it.\u201d We each must \u201cdo it.\u201d We each must exercise Faith in our Heavenly Father. That\u2019s how we become who we truly are.<\/p>\n

Theology matters.<\/p>\n
