{"id":3066,"date":"2013-01-18T15:21:33","date_gmt":"2013-01-18T23:21:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/godslovewins.com\/blog\/?p=3066"},"modified":"2019-10-30T13:45:25","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T20:45:25","slug":"thomas-talbott-and-jerry-walls-debate-eternal-hell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/godslovewins.com\/blog\/thomas-talbott-and-jerry-walls-debate-eternal-hell\/","title":{"rendered":"Thomas Talbott and Jerry Walls Debate Eternal Hell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a debate held November 12, 2012 between Thomas Talbott (<em>The Inescapable Love of God<\/em>) and Jerry Walls (<em>Hell: the Logic of Damnation<\/em>) on the nature of Hell held at Malone University entitled &#8220;Go to Hell?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/new.livestream.com\/accounts\/1334782\/events\/1649702\/videos\/6182635\/player?autoPlay=false&amp;height=360&amp;mute=false&amp;width=640\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>(Video has been deleted from public view for reasons unknown.)<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly Dr. Walls recently published a book presenting a Protestant take on &#8220;limbo&#8221; called<em> Purgatory: The Logic of Total Transformation<\/em>.\u00a0Jerry Wall&#8217;s faith in man&#8217;s &#8220;free-will&#8221; has forced him to suggest a work of sanctification post-mortem.\u00a0It appears to be yet another attempt to reconcile the unreconcilable: an eternal hell of torment for most of mankind against a loving God on the one hand and trying to hold fast to His sovereignty on the other.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to begin to explore the idea of a <em>non-Catholic<\/em> view of a post-mortem refinement (that is, not a <em>payment<\/em> for sins but rather a sanctifying work) read on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Scot McKnight reviewed Walls&#8217; book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/jesuscreed\/2012\/03\/29\/a-protestant-affirms-second-chance-purgatory\/\">here<\/a> and it elicited primarily the following response: if people knew they had another chance (by going to &#8220;purgatory&#8221;) then why would anyone change now? Where would the urgency be in this life?
