Something we hear continually in our journey in the belief in the Ultimate Reconciliation of All is that it goes against the “majority view” for at least the last 1500 years and some would even say that it has been the case from the beginning.
However, perhaps we can frame it this way: How is something that is held by the subjects of an oppressive authoritarian system in fear be considered a true majority view? To put it another way: If folks are held by way of bondage to believe and confess the party line tenets of that system, by threat of being ostracized or ridiculed (or worse), is that truly a majority view? If one is not free to believe or even question anything different from the view decreed from the top, is that an authentic position? We think not… What do you think?
I have to agree. This argument used to bother me and make me pause without a clear answer. But then I realized that the “view” was being fed from the top down just as tyrannical political leaders have dispensed their “truth” while communicating: Do or be ridiculed, loose freedoms or at worst, do or die.
